Results of the 1st quarter have been submitted to rat games! I shared the scores from last week, so here are this week’s scores. Remember that each rat found is worth 2 points. But not doing the tunnel within the 2 minutes is minus 3. And calling an incorrect tube is minus 3.
I’m going to list the placements, then do the rest of the scores in the order they were run so I don’t miss anyone.
1st place- Voodoo Puls with a score of 17 under Judge Erin McDaniel
2nd place- Jif Fields with a score of 16
and we have a 4 way tie for 3rd place with a score of 15!
The rest of the scores in the order run are:
Addie A 7
Austin C 5
Alanis F 0
Rumor F 6
Betty Jean R 9
Elliot R 11
Pattie M 3
Luke M 11
Piper M 9
Angus H 7
Fiona H 13
Macintosh S 9
Nikki A 9
Winnie O 0
Reva O 7
Zeus L 1

Congrats to everyone! I hope you all had fun and will join us for the trial on March 9th.

The premium for the March 9th Mad Hatter trial can be found on this page:
This includes the entry form. It opens on Sunday, so be sure your entries don’t arrive before that date. I don’t THINK it will fill, but getting your entries in early gives you the best shot at an early run time. And if multiple people want the same time slot, the folks that entered first get priority. If you can be flexible about when you run, you can note that on your entry form. I’ll do my best to accommodate everyone’s schedule, but can’t make any promises.
Due to a notice I got from the founder of barn hunt saying a barn hunt club and barn hunt Judge can’t promote another rat hunting org (Rat Games), the S.E. Indiana Barn Hunt Club will now be known as S.E. Indiana Rats and Dogs. I’ll be updating everything over the next few days. Training for both sports will still be offered here, as well as Rat Games trials.
I will be stepping down as a Barn Hunt Judge as well. But will still Judge Cleremont next month (if Robin, the owner of barn hunt, doesn’t remove my Judge status before then).
- Who: Anyone at any level can play this league, it’s just for fun and to help me become a Judge/club for the org.
- What: A set order of games based on finding rats in straw.
- When: Starts Jan 6th with a new game/course each week
- Where: Same place I offer training! (In my basement)
- Why: Because it looks like it will be a lot of fun!
- How much: Entry fee is $5 per game x 8 games ($40). $2 per entry goes to Rat Games and the remainder of this fee will help pay for ribbons for when I’m able to offer official trials or league entries.
Thankfully Voodoo’s reaction to the mystery bug was mild and Dazzle didn’t show any symptoms of having gotten the same cough/bug. So classes are back in full swing as of today and a new course has been set.
During the down time, Linda came over and helped re-design the courses! The room is divided lengthwise now instead of across the width. There is a zig zag tunnel and the difficult “top hat” tunnel. And the Novice tunnel doesn’t have a direct entry from the start box. All things that you could see at a trial and that present challenges. And for Master, I can put a bale across the opening between the tunnels in the upper level area and create quite a distance challenge.
Due to Voodoo having kennel cough, classes are cancelled till at least April 6th, may need to be longer. I’ve been told I can carry the virus on my clothes and shoes and skin, so to be safe, I’m cancelling barn hunt classes until Voodoo stops coughing and I’m sure that Dazzle doesn’t have it (or until Dazzle stops coughing). If Voodoo coughs for longer than expected or Dazzle gets it, it may be longer before classes resume. Sorry for the inconvenience, but better to be safe.
I took Voodoo to medvet today to have him tested to be sure it’s just kennel cough and not the flu. He doesn’t have a fever, no vomiting or loose stool, lungs sounded good, and he’s acting like he feels fine, so the vet felt KC is most likely. He just started coughing this afternoon, and hasn’t been in the basement in the last week, so exposure to folks that have been here the past few days should be very minimal. But since I was told I can transmit it from my clothes/shoes, I’m cancelling classes to be on the safe side. And I’m cancelling till after Greenville, because even if Voodoo stops coughing earlier, it’s likely Dazzle will also get it and even if he doesn’t… my body can’t handle 2 weeks worth of sessions crammed into just a couple days before the trial.
